This video was my submission to the 2021 NCSU PRS, which gathered postdocs from across North Carolina to virtually share their research and network.
Powassan virus (POWV) is a tick-borne flavivirus emerging in the US that can cause neuroinvasive disease, but the host factors that determine which individuals will develop severe disease are not fully understood. In this video, I discuss my work using the Collaborative Cross panel of genetically diverse mice to determine the viral and immunologic features of POWV pathogenesis and identify host genes that contribute to POWV susceptibility.
I was featured by UConn Today in an online article highlighting the publication of my manuscript "Single dose of a replication-defective vaccinia virus expressing Zika virus-like particles is protective in mice" in Scientific Reports.
While I was a graduate student at the University of Connecticut, I was featured by local news station Fox61 in a primetime news segment titled "UConn scientists moving fast to develop Zika vaccine" highlighting my work to develop a Zika virus vaccine.
While I was a graduate student at the University of Connecticut, my work developing a Zika virus vaccine was featured on the cover page of the prestigious Boston Globe newspaper.
